day in the sun as Producer takes on the locals at Veliefendi
"SOME
of you this year have spent your summer holiday in Turkey
"PRODUCER,
our Criterion Stakes winner, runs in one of the two big international races
being staged tomorrow at Veliefendi racecourse in Instanbul.
"PRODUCER
left on Tuesday and since then has been having a nice few days in the sun. It's going to be a bit more arduous for me
and tomorrow (Sunday) is definitely going to be a long day. I have to be up at 4.30am so that I can be
going through the airport doors at 6am
for a 7am departure. After the four-hour flight. I'll get to the track
and find myself with lots of time to kill because PRODUCER doesn't run until
the fifth race.
"I
haven't been to Veliefendi before and maybe I'm being overtly pessimistic, but
I'm not expecting the weighing room to offer much more than a table and chairs.
There will be a few familiar faces in the weighing room - George Baker, Mickael
Barzalona and Pat Cosgrave have a ride in the same race-but not many.

"I'll
walk the track, which will take up half an hour or so, but that relies on the
officials letting me out of the weighing room, which sometimes they're
reluctant to do with visiting jockey's that don't speak the local language. My
flight home is at 8.30pm, so I won't be home until about 2am and then I'm off
to Brighton on Monday morning. That's the bad
bit.
"The
good bit is that I don't have to do a light weight to partner PRODUCER in the Veliefendi race, worth £250,000 and I've got a great chance of winning. My lad
is definitely the one to beat.
