OH NO .... ANDREW SCUTTS reports "ROYAL DERBY DRAMA. FINGERS CROSSED."
"Racing world waits with bated breath as setback threatens Epsom participation of Queen's CARLTON HOUSE.
"Yesterday after the Queen's Investic Derby favourite CARLTON HOUSE suffered a setback that could rule him out of the big race. Her Majesty along with thousands of racing fans and punters, will be praying for the Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt to recover from a swollen near fore leg, news of which resulted in his price drifting from a morning low of 5-4 with Ladbrokes out to 2-1 with Boylesports last night.
"The colt is sound but it will be a day-by-day thing," said John Warren, the Queen's racing and bloodstock advisor, yesterday.
"CARLTON HOUSE was found to have a small amount of filling in his near-fore joint at evening stables last night, following a routine canter yesterday. As a result, precautionary
x-rays were taken this morning, which revealed no abnormalities. We remain extremely hopeful he is on target for the Derby.
"CARLTON HOUSE was gifted to the Queen by his breeder Sheikh Mohammed, has been favourite for the Derby since his impressive return at York last month, when he beat SEVILLE by a length and a half under RYAN MOORE in the Dante Stakes."
ANDREW SCUTTS reports "DETTORI SWEET on Classic follow-up for BLUE BUNTING in Oaks, saying she deserves to be favourite."
"TRAGEDY ON THE DOWNS STEVE DENNIS recalls the 1913 Derby, arguably the most eventful race ever run in Britain , during which Emily Davison lost her life for the suffragette cause. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emily_Davison
JULIAN MUSCAT "Winners who left late scares trailing in their wake
"LAVANDIN took a lame step after his final workout before." winning the Derby
"On April 30, RODERIC O'CONNOR finished unplaced in the 2,000 Guineas before rebounding to win the Irish equivalent, in the process advancing his RPR from 46 to 120."
At this time of year three year olds can come on in leaps and bounds, and often do, leaving punters the kick back.

Who was, Roderic O'Connor
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Roderic O'Connor" redirects here. For the 11th century king of Connacht, see Ruaidrí na Saide Buide. For the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, see Roderic L. O'Connor.
Born in Milltown, Castleplunket, Co. Roscommon, Ireland,[1] O'Conor studied at Ampleforth College, then at Dublin and Antwerp before moving to Paris where he was deeply influenced by the Impressionists.
O'Conor attended the Metropolitan School and Royal Hibernian Academy early in his career.[2] Like his classmate, Richard Moynan, O'Conor would travel to Antwerp then Paris to gain further experience.[3] In 1892 he went to Pont-Aven in Brittany where he worked closely with a group of artists around the Post-Impressionist Paul Gauguin, whom he befriended.[1] His method of painting with textured strokes of contrasting colours also owed much to Van Gogh. His nephew, Patrick O'Connor (1909-97), was also a painter as well as a sculptor.
In March 2011 a work by O'Conor sold for £337,250 (€383,993). Landscape, Cassis, an oil-on-canvas, was painted by O'Conor in the south of France in 1913 and sold at Sotheby's for significantly higher than the estimate price.[4]

POUR MOI before facing a crucial canter this morning.
"The chances of the Queen's horse lining up at Epsom appeared yesterday to rest on how the the Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt comes through a key canter on Newmaret Heath this morning.
"For the second day running, CARLTON HOUSE was yesterday confined to walking and trotting in the covered ride at Stoute's Freemason Lodge, a regime that began after he knocked a near- fore joint in a routine canter on Monday.
"Following his light exercise, CARLTON HOUSE put in a brief public appearance, emerging from Freemason Lodge to return to his box at Stoute's second yard Beech Hurst, at around 10am. "
CONFLICTS OF INTEREST S EXIST WHEN USING THE PUBLIC HIGHWAYS.
The Racing Post photograph showing CARLTON HOUSE partnered by JOHNNY NOLAN crossing the Bury Road in Newmarket on his way to Sir Michael Stoute's second yard, Beech Hurst. This photograph shows the conflict of interests that can and so often do threaten, and sometimes distroy the lives of horses and their minders when using the public highways. Something that Bloodhorse Illiterate drivers remain unaware of .... the dangers they impose upon others.
