MUSINGS FROM A RETIRED RACING ENTHUSIAST

"Beacon Lady one of racing's small heroines. "

An enchanting little true Cameo Sketch from David this morning in the Racing Post.

A must read.

Closing paragraph

David's last paragraph "Beacon Lady is one of those wonderful small heroines of horseracing who play such a big part in the joy of the sport. If she never wins another race she will have left her memories, and her time in the sun may not be over yet. Tomorrow, Beacon Lady will run at Brighton again, up in class, down in distance, a 6lb penalty taking her to a rating of 85.
"It's a tough task. Wouldn't it be wonderful if she could do it" .  Yes,  yes, yes  David.

Clue: 'Chester is just heaven for front- running sprinters'

RACING can be a confusing sport, full of idioms and jarring jargon. Even for old hands at the game there may still be a few new tricks to learn. To that end, we recently asked readers whether there were any questions about racing they wanted to put to us.

Q. GER SCULLY asks: "The colt by Sea The Stars out of Zarkava is due out this year and is with Team Alain de Royer-Dupre. What is he called?

A. SCOTT BURTON, French correspondent, says: "With such illustrious parentage, ZARKASH is arguably one of the most eagerly awaited debutants in racing history. His dam  Zarkava was described as "the apotheosis of my career" by Aga Khan after bowing out unbeaten in the 2008 Prix de L'Arc  de Triomphe.

"That heritage has been built on a combination of carefully selected bloodlines and trainers like Alain de Royer-Dupre giving his potential stars time before any questions are asked in training or on the track. Baby yearling colts have much to learn if they are ever to set foot on a racecourse as two year olds. How they learn, and with whom, vital for their future success, and assured confidence.

"Zarkash is described as being very quiet, unlike Zarkave herself, although physically taking more after her than Sea The Stars.

"Royer-Dupre has had two Aga Khan juveniles considered forward enough to be tried in public, with so far, with the Street Cry colt Daraybi already impressing in his debut success at Chantilly.

"No starting date has been given for Zarkash, but, given that this is an operation that tends to exercise a young prospect on turf only a couple of times before starting off on a racecourse, it is very much a caser of watch this space.

"Zarkava's first offspring, a filly by Dalakhani, was deemed to precious to risk on the track.

"However His Highness can look forward to a Galileo yearling and a foal by Dubawi (both colts), while Zarkava is in foal to Redoute's Choice."

J Margaret Clarke Turfcall Comment
The highly skilled art of bringing along the yearlings these days is sadly of no interest to the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) or the British Political Government both appear to take the view that any and all such skills are not worthy of a wage of any sort, bar the minimum wage. Both governments together with the British Legal Justice System  guilty of ongoing embezzlement, and with it libel, and  fraudulent abuse of power of the worst possible kind burdened upon all true professional  horsemen over the last 6 decades..
