Bill Barber brings news:
“BRITISH racing was yesterday promising that the decision to allow Newcastle racecourse to convert its Flat Turf Course to an all-weather course was not “the thin-end of the wedge” and that the controversial plans would be a positive for the sport.

JMC: "Money the god of government man Nick Rust and Newcastle racecourse only interested in the financial side of their racecourse they couldn't care less how many racehorses, jockey's, trainers team horsemen and horsewomen get killed or seriously injured on their racecourse.

"Aging turf, as found on the present track at Newcastle racecourse is irreplaceable if properly cared for that is, as a horseracing surface.

“While acknowledging the depth of feeling about the move, many owners and trainers have reacted with horror to the news, describing it as a “disaster” and “an act of vandalism” .

JMC: Suggestion: If Newcastle racecourse belonging to Arena-Leisure want an all-weather surface racetrack why don’t they put one in alongside the existing “Turf Track”. They will then be able to offer the trainers the use of two different racing surfaces, plus not letting the trainers down so badly as is about to happen now, if they trash their popular turf track.

This factor will be key next week at Royal Ascot, the condition of the Flat Turf Track there.
