RACING POST writer Lee Mottershead has been voted journalist of the year by his peers.

"Mottershead, 36, beat off strong opposition from Racing Post contributor Julian Muscat, Alan Lee of the Times and the Independent's Chris McGrath to become the second successive winner of the coveted prize for the Racing Post following Brough Scott.

"Mottershead received the prestigious accolade at the 45th annual Horseracing Writers and Photographers Association 'Derby' Awards at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London last Monday.

"I am absolutely made up, chuffed to bits," said Mottershead.
