NEWS ANALYSIS
IS RACING SEXIST?
"How far has the sport come
from traditional old boys' club image?
"IS
RACING SEXIST? A loaded question if ever there was one, with as difficult an
answer to define as that posed to the panel as John McCririck's ageism tribunal
this week, for surely - to some extent it is a matter of opinion?
J Margaret Clarke Turfcall Comment
No this is not opinion it is fact John McCririck's has held his same job ongoing over 29 years.
FACT NOT FICTION
McCririck over these 29 years has provided sound guidance on betting in practice.
Sexism found mainly among the powers that be at the top table of BHA within a cruel patronizing, punishing attitude environment of dictatorial force and unsound knowledge
It
has been noted that the British political and horseracing government hand in
hand with the British legal justice system over the last 6 decades have used
their power to cruelly abuse, punish and restrict the lives of teenagers (both
sexes) from the age of 14 and on throughout up to 30 year olds, and further
same cruel treatment burdened upon defenceless older people (both sexes.) Power
abuse that has condemned and cruelly destroyed millions of peoples lives as
they have attempted to live through these two age brackets burdened by cruel
government bent on destruction creating their own lethal throw away culture. Rip
Off Britain's key punishers.
Further
allegations of ageism were made by former presenter Lesley Graham at John McCririck's employment tribunal, writes Tom Kerr'
"Graham,
who was one of Channel 4 Racing's senior presenters for more than 20 years,
told the hearing that she was left "angry" and
"disappointed" when head of sport Andrew Thompson told her in December
2009, as she was approaching the age of 50, that her days were to be reduced
from 40 to 15.
"She
believes she was "effectively replaced " by Emma Spencer and Alice
Plunkett, then 31 and 36 respectively . "I had no notice that this was
going to happen and was extremely surprised and disappointed, " she said.
" "I was shocked and didn't fully understand the reasons for this.
"The
only reason I could think that my annual days were being reduced was because of
my age. "
"She
added she was "very angry" when in January 2011 she read Thompson's
boast that the average age of presenters was "significantly down" and
that the show was appealing to "new generations" .
"She
said: "I felt my initial interpretation that my days were reduced because
of my age was correct. As the only female presenter to be displaced was myself
and I was the only female presenter over 40, the format changes for female
presenters appeared to have been driven by ageism. "
"Graham,
who said she was initially obliged to accept the reduced airtime in order to
support her family, left Channel 4 last year she is now chief executive to Racing Welfare.
"Responding
in a statement yesterday, Channel 4 sports editor Jamie Aitchison said his
understanding was that Graham's appearances were reduced "so that there
would be fewer regular presenters on Channel 4 racing because he (Andrew
Thompson) thought viewers wanted to see more consistency in the presenting team. "
"In
response to her complaints about Thompson, Aitchison said: "He played no
part in the decisions I and IMG made in 2012 as he had long left Channel 4.
"
"In
the morning the tribunal heard testimony from the Conservative MP Philip Davies, who described the decision to
sack John McCririck as "a catastrophic mistake" .
"The hearing continues. "
