Review Ryanair Wednesday December 30, 2015.
"Today the final day at Leopardstown Mullins challenges with Nichols Canyon in the Ryanair Hurdle (2.30). Willie Mullins writes: "Nichols Canyon is a five- time Grade I winner. He won four of them as a novice last season and maybe we underestimated him when he took on Faugheen and beat him in the Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown last month. He’s been in good form since and you could say Faugheen didn’t let the form down at Kempton on Saturday!"

Willie Mullins writes: “Nichols Canyon has won over the course and is very adaptable it terms of distance. The testing ground won’t inconvenience him and with his form looking very strong you’d have to think he will be hard to beat.

WIN: Nichols Canyon (GB) 5 11-10 partner Ruby Walsh Team (Willie) Mullins for Andrea & Graham Wylie, 2 -5f.

Tony O’Hehir writes Racing Post Wednesday December 30. Festival Movers.

“Champion Hurdle sponsors Stan James cut Faugheen to 1-2 (from 8-11), while lengthening Nichols Canyon to 7-1. (from 5)
"William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke said “”Nichols Canyon has shown great determination to get his nose in front today, but if Faugheen brings his A-game to Cheltenham he will need a minor miracle to beat him.”
“With Artic Fire also quoted at 7-1 by Stan James, Willie Mullins has the first three in the Champion Hurdle betting – and Ireland can now boast the first four in some firms lists, with yesterday’s Identity Thief serving notice that he is another to consider for Cheltenham.

“Several bookmakers made Identity Thief, previously the winner of the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle, a 12-1 (from 25) shot for the opening –day festival highlight as he went down fighting against Nichols Canyon,  losing out only after a ding-dong tussle.

“After Identity Thief had headed Nichols Canyon away from two out, the odds -on favourite rallied from strong Ruby Walsh pressure from the final hurdle and led about 100 yards out to win by two lengths.

“Mullins compared the winner to his record- breaking champion Hurricane Fly who won yesterday’s Grade 1 contest four times in his career.”

“Mullins said: “Nichols Canyon’s battling qualities and quick jumping remind me of Hurricane Fly, although he doesn’t have the same zip as The Hurricane had. “It was his stamina and courage that won the race for him today.

Mullins said: “It was a tough test and he’s had a hard race, so we’ll have to see how he comes out of it. He’ll be entered for the Irish Champion Hurdle but we’ll wait until much closer to the time before deciding if he’ll run. I don’t see quicker ground being a problem for him at Cheltenham, where it is a demanding two miles and half a furlong, and he has won on good ground. “

“Nichols Canyon’s win brought his tally of Grade 1 victories to six, four of which were achieved as a novice last season.
“Walsh said:
“It takes two horses to make a good race and that is what we had. “Bryan [Cooper] wanted to make it and then he slowed it down, so I took it off him and it was a true race. We went at it hammer and tongs from the bottom of the straight. “It’s hard to judge Nichols Canyon on today. There is a very strong headwind and the ground is very deep so he has done very well to win. Identity Thief was brilliant too and ran a blinder. “

"Morning Run will be putting her unbeaten record on the line in the Grade 3 mares’ hurdle (1.20) We also run Whiteout in the 2m4f event and both are going there in good shape. Lucky Pass represents us in the bumper (3.40) the  final race of the four day festival. He’s a nice horse and we’re looking forward to a big run.
