RACING POST SATURDAY AUGUST 6th 2011

THE RACING POST SATURDAY AUGUST 6th 2011

DAVID CARR TODAY’S BIG TALKING POINT. HUGHES UP FOR THE CUP
“A team event, but for HUGHES it’s personal. On things that make this year’s Shergar Cup a great event. Don’t let anyone tell you that the result of today’s Shergar Cup does not matter, for what happens this afternoon will probably mean an awful lot to one man in particular.
“Racing’s international competition is not quite the World Cup, the Ryder Cup or even the Davis Cup. If you stopped 100 people on Ascot high street this morning you’d be lucky to find one who remembered which side won last year.
“ASCOT braced for bumper crowd of more that 30,000 expected for the annual rendition of the Shergar Cup, which has the popular add-on attraction  of a 1980’s-themed pop concert after the sixth races."
