SUCH AN INCIDENT AS THIS MANIFESTING ITSELF through failed British regulation, letting the young ones down big time, over a lengthy period, until the young ones grow older and this sort of thing manifests itself. It could be said better the elbow than the whip stopping horses.

PAUL EACOTT "BOOKMAKERS reject bid by Cheltenham to grab slice of turnover ...
"Bookmakers have rebuffed an audacious advance by Cheltenham to grab a bigger slice from the multi-million-pound betting ring at the 2013 festival by charging on-course layers a percentage of turnover .....

"The abolution later this year of the long- standing 'five times rule', which means bookmakers pay five times the admission price to stand and bet, opens a new lucrative revenue source for tracks, and senior management at Cheltenham had hoped they could bargain for a percentage of the turnover in what is by far the busiest betting ring of the year.

"It is estimated at least £1 million changes hands on every race in the betting ring at the festival, frequented by more than 250 bookmakers - thus Cheltenham was angling for a percentage of £27m-plus.

"That proposal was rejected by bookmakers, but costs of betting at the meeting are still set to rise by more than 40 per cent next year. ......
