"MARTIN DWYER heads to India to fight lengthy ban."

"Martin Dwyer flies out to India this morning to appeal against his eight-month suspension that has drawn widespread condemnation across British racing , writes Graham Green
"Although he insists he is the victim of injustice, Dwyer admits he will be attending tomorrow's hearing at Pune racecourse with trepidation.

"The Marlborough-based freelance, who has won the Derby and the Oaks, originally appealed against the 56-day ban he received from the Royal Western India Turf Club when deemed guilty of preventing Ice Age running on her merits at Mahalaxmi racecourse in Mumbai in February, and was left stunned three weeks ago on learning the punishment without any published explanation, had been increased to eight months.

"Had the race taken place in Britain most observers believe the stewards would have taken no action against the 38-year-old, who's fight to clear his name has received support from professionals throughout the sport.

"Professional Jockey Association chief executive Paul Struthers had planned to accompany Dwyer at the appeal until advised his presence  would not necessarily improve the jockey's prospects of success.

"Dwyer said yesterday: "I'm going over there with confidence because at the end of the day I'm innocent of the charges, but also with a little trepidation. I can't say I'm looking forward to this trip, but it's something I've got to do.

"If it goes the wrong way I'll come straight back and start the process of putting in an appeal to the BHA {not to reciprocate the ban}."

"He added "I'm not guilty of the charge of not letting the filly run on her merits and although my reduction in the ban would be a better outcome, what I'm looking for is to be completely exonerated . The only evidence against me is the race video, and nobody can explain that better than me. "
