LEANNE MASTERSON WINS RIDER- MINDER OF THE
YEAR AWARD
AT GODOLPHIN PARTY
TEAM (Andrew) BALDING.
"The tenth annual Godolphin Awards Roll of Honour held at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel in London on Tuesday night.
"Tony
McCoy presented Leanne with a cheque for £30,000, half of which will be shared
among her team mates at Kingsclere
"Masterson,
34, first joined Ian Balding as a sixteen-year- old apprentice - riding seven
winners - before taking over travelling the horses. Last year she travelled
with Side Glance to the UAE, the US,
Hong Kong and Australia,
where he won the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes. Leanne tells us "It's quite a
responsibility and a bit of pressure.
You become friends of the horses you care for every day. Side Glance has done so
much for me, I owe him so much, he is my best friend.
JMC: How
long will it be before Trainer Team Handler-Riders - Minders get properly recognised for
the part they play in preparing each racehorse to compete on the global
racetracks around the world? To be allowed to have a true career structure. To be allowed to be fully
recognised and properly paid? British Football Team's buy the players to make up their teams, and further pay each player a proper wage, and that is for kicking a ball about. The true value of attempting to train racehorses every day ..... massive. Trainers need ace handler - riders to make up their teams. Top professional handler - riders bloodhorse literate achievers in their own right, deserve to be paid a top wage for the skills they have achieved. To be paid only a minimum wage , scandalous. Government theft on a massive scale.
