 NOVICE CHASE NUMBERS GAME
By Lee Mottershead
“BANGOR’S novice chase on Saturday has two runners, the Grade 2 novice chases at Newbury’s winter festival only three and five. At Doncaster on Friday the novice chase look place with four horses, while Uttoxeter’s beginners’ chase one day earlier had three starters.
“In total there were 28 non-handicap novice or beginners’ chasers in Britain during November, the average size was 4.57 with none of the races managing eight runners and thereafter each-way betting to three places.

“In Ireland the last eight beginner’s chases, staged since November 15, have started with 12,18,12,16,14,16 and 12 runners, while yesterday’s Grade 1 Drinmore Novice chase attracted a field of 13.

“Novice chases are essential for jumping to flourish and are not designed to secure large fields. Nor, though, do racecourses put them on with the expectation of only two or three horses taking part.
“A happy medium has plainly yet to be found in Britain.

Racing Right Equus Jump Racing Zone:
The general public do not understand in the main how a racehorse is trained, therefore if they want to have a bet in a race it is best to stay well clear of Beginner and Novice Chaser races, and keep your money in your pocket. Chases are the most dangerous races of all to risk your money on, involving an estimated 22 big chase fences to be cleared per race. To train these horses is a highly skilled accurate work of art, which British horseracing government don’t even understand themselves either.

These famous chasers mentioned here all had to start out in Novice and Beginners chases at the start of  their careers. Great care is taken by the trainers in finding the right type of race to suit their horse, no stone is  left unturned in finding the first 6 or so races, to suit the horse, to help the horse to learn what he is being asked to do, and gradually little by little the horses gain their confidence, and begin to show their talent, it is only then that punters can start to have confidence themselves to have a bet on these most wonderful creatures. Because the chasers mentioned here have been brilliant racehorses in their day. Make no mistake about that.
Chasers can get injured badly as well, which is another mine-field of likely disaster to attempt to prevent if possible.

Team (Colin)Tizzard
Jo Tizzard  competing with Cue Card in many of the top British chases over the past few years have achieved a great deal of success together. Jo Tizzard retired from race riding at the end of last jumps season, so now Cue Card has a different rider for this season. But will Cue Card ever be able to compete at the same level again, with someone else in the saddle? We will have to wait and see. Jo was the only rider to partner Cue Card both on the racetrack and at home every day, they knew each other well and it showed throughout Cue Cards performances. That undoubtedly contributed to Cue Cards accurate consistent jumping performance to win many top steeplechases, both had confidence in each other. Key to all chasing success.

Team (David) Elsworth
Desert Orchid another top steeplechaser throughout his racing career, had several different riders, winning with them all. Desert Orchid took a grip, no matter who was in the saddle he had confidence in jumping such big fences throughout and it showed.

Then there was Best Mate who had Jim Culloty in the saddle throughout his career…
Behind every top racehorse there is a strong highly skilled “Racing Right Equus Zone Team” in the background at home to prepare these racehorses to reach stardom. Wonderful, wonderful people.

People who are treated in a shocking way by government, made out to be crooks by the powers that be.
