“Williams proposal on discussion table. “
“THE BHA said yesterday Venetia Williams’ proposal to boost
field sizes through increasing the amount of prize-money beaten horses receive
relative to winners is “on the table” for discussion, but they revealed
disagreement between horsemen had caused an impasse in the past.
“In yesterday’s Racing Post Williams called for jumping in
Britain to adopt the prize-money distribution system employed in France, where
second- placed jumpers invariably received 50 percent of the winner’s purse,
significantly up on the 29 or 37 percent runners up collection in Britain
depending on the race’s quality.
“Williams, who also believes entry fees should be scrapped for
some races that traditionally suffer from small fields, said “We need to change
a racing culture that is largely based around ‘winner takes all’ - or certainly nearly all.
“The BHA highlighted that from December 1 until the end of
next year £4,2 million from the bookmakers’ Additional Voluntary Contribution
Fund is being used to extend prize-money in Class 2 races to eighth place and
in Class 3 -6 races to sixth.
“Commenting on Williams’ suggestions , BHA director of
racing Ruth Quinn said: “We believe increasing
prize-money levels for placed horses will help boost place money field sizes
and that’s why over 4m from the AVCF will be invested in boosting place money down
to sixth and eighth place in a range of races throughout 2015.
“The subject of the percentage allocation of prize-money
between first and placed has been discussed and will be on the table as one of
many areas to explore with stakeholders with a view to addressing the issue of
small fields…The subject has provoked contrasting views from horsemen. JMC: What sort of horsemen? It is noted that there is a group
calling themselves “The Horseman’s Group” With not a single horseman in it. All in this group are fraudulent impostors pretending
to be horsemen, when they are nothing of the sort.
“National Trainers Federation chief executive Rupert Arnold said: “I’ve spoken with our National Hunt committee, which is supportive of Venetia’s ideas. They’re good ideas and I’ve fed them to the BHA. “
JMC: There is much, much, much more that needs to go urgently to the top table, to be set to rights by true Racing Right Equus Zone qualifiers, as is Venetia Williams in practice, and in theory and to no one else, not a top table set-up by imposters.
