ZARA PHILLIPS the Queen's three-day-eventing grand-daughter represents racing in the Cheltenham segment of the relay. Cheltenham Borough Council spokesman Craig Mortiboys said: "The racecourse is a fantastic amphitheatre and I think the moment she lights the cauldron will really mark the arrival of the Olympics for Cheltenham."

OVERTURN and JASON MAGUIRE TO CARRY OLYMPIC FLAME

"OVERTURN will have his reputation as the north- west's equine pride and joy confirmed next week when the sport's leading duel-purpose performer carries both JASON MAGUIRE and the Olympic torch into Chester racecourse.

"Exactly 20 days after finishing a gallant second in his bid to claim back-to-back victories in the Chester Cup. Tim Leslie's popular front- runner will return to the Roodee, where at 6.50pm on Tuesday he will compete the final leg of Chester's section of the Olympic torch relay.

 

"MAGUIRE partnering OVERTURN, will light the Olympic flame cauldron on a special stage that will host an afternoon and evening of entertainment at the city track.

 

"It was a real privilage to be asked." said Donald Mc Cain. "OVERTURN is a very special horse and means a lot to us. Chester and its sister track Bangor have always been very good to us, so it's lovely to have him take part in the event. I'll be at the Doncaster sales so, unfortunately, I won't be able to be there."
