"McGrath vows to clear his name of
charges. "
Richie McGrath charged with corruption. No the
charge of corruption belongs to government error, not to jockey error as stated
here in today’s Racing Post.
PERSPECTIVE THE TRUE GLOBAL SPORT OF HORSERACING::
more later
As portrayed by Clive Brittain in his book with
Robin Oakley “The Smiling Pioneer” .
“Speaking on behalf of McGrath, his
solicitor Andrew Chalk, said: “Richie is shocked and bitterly disappointed to be
facing charges, but vigorously maintains his innocence and intends to fight to
clear his name, however financially straining that may be.
“However, this case
yet again highlights the vast imbalance in resources between the prosecuting authority and those
who have to defend themselves, often with their livelihood at stake. A fair
hearing demands a level playing field, but these cases are rarely played out on
such a surface.
“Plenty of winners and well known for distinctive style
“Well known for his distinctive, patient riding style, McGrath continued to boot home plenty of winners, mainly on the northern circuit. The highlight came two years later when he landed the Scottish Grand National aboard the Andrew Crook-trained Ryalux, getting the better of a thrilling finish with Tony McCoy, who was aboard neck runner-up Stormez for Martin Pipe.

“Plenty of winners and well known for distinctive style
“BORN in County Tipperary, Richie McGrath came to
Britain at the age of 16 to join Jonjo O’Neill’s team. He was a successful
conditional jockey (Student, Learner Handler Rider) for nine years before
deciding to stay in the north of England when his boss moved south from Cumbria
to Jackdaws Castle in 2001. writes Richard Birch.
“Other big race triumphs included the 2006 Red
Square Vodka Chase at Haydock on regular mount Ossmoses, who galloped 15
lengths clear of Model Son in the final furlong, and the 2002 Victor Chandler
Chase at Ascot aboard Turgeonev, who destroyed a Grade 2 field which included the Martin Pipe
pair Exit Swinger and Wahiba Sands.
“McGrath, who is married to former trainer Kate
Walton’s daughter Nicky – who is Mark Johnston’s senior racing secretary and
with whom he has two children – enjoyed a fine 2011-12 season with 32 winners
“However, he has suffered more than his share of
injuries throughout his career. His winners tally was down to 12 last season,
and he has not ridden this campaign. “
The input of McGrath’s career path speaks
for itself, spelling out the successes he has achieved in the saddle in his own
right, no one can take those successes away from him ever. No one has the right
to attempt to do so as is being falsely alleged now. There is no fluke about
any of this. The only way a person can succeed in a sports career like this is
through hard work, honesty and dedication. All of which McGrath has achieved himself, in his own right, a massive
achievement make no mistake about that. McGrath
belongs by nature in the True Equus Zone.
“Richie McGrath’s status as a top
professional jump jockey handler rider of the highest order, he should be marked
up and recognised like this on every racehorse he partners to be stated same In
all racecards and in all newspapers So why is this not the case? And why has
this never been the case?
Richie McGrath’s name by rights should have been printed on all racecards and in all newspapers listing the runners and riders every day stating his form as a jockey eg:
Richie McGrath (GB) (JJG1) These initials by his name are: (British Jump Jockey Group 1)
In the sport of global golf the handicap of each player is always acknowledged I believe. And can be changed according to each players form in game play, it can go up, or it can go down. I believe in golf the lower the handicap, the better the player.
Once
a licensed jockey gets the leg up in the parade ring on any racecourse the
control of that racehorse is passed by the handler on the ground, to that
person in the saddle. Where it remains until that rider dismounts and hands that
horse back to the handler on the ground. That horse is dependent entirely upon
the skills of that rider throughout. That horse remains that rider’s responsibility.
