SPECIAL FOCUS
Key questions for racing in Scotland. Lee brings us 10 questions and 10 answers.
This whole conundrum has shown us all ready how easily the No Thanks voters believe they can trample the Yes voters underfoot, using the evil darkage tactic of scaremongering. By telling people what to do, and what to say, in this perspective here anyone attempting such evil is committing a Criminal Act. Because the choice here is the peoples choice, no one elses.

 18 run. 3 Reserves

Pricewise (Tom Segal) takes a much closer look at this race off at 4:40 this afternoon. A chase handicap over 3m. Fences 18. Left handed track. Top weight 11-7. Bottom weight 9-12 Racing Post Ratings highest 166. Lowest 154. Going stated to be Good (Good to Firm in places)

Tom says: “IF ALDERWOOD (10  11-7 partner Tony McCoy) is the horse he was last year when he won the Grand Annual at Cheltenham, he will take a lot of beating in this afternoon’s Guinness Kerry National Handicap Chase at Listowel.

“The fact Tony McCoy chooses him in front of a host of other horses owned by J P McManus suggests  connections feel the ability is still there, and he was backed into joint-favouritism.

EQUUS ZONE CONCERNS
JMC: Read what Tom sets out here on page 7 it makes interesting reading. This is a dangerous race due to the fact that there are 18 starters, it is a steeplechase over 3 miles with18 big chase fences including an open ditch and a water jump to be jumped clean with 17 other chasers trying to jump to win all around you. J P McManus has six chances to win this. So he is clearly very keen to win. And may well do so. The betting forecast mirrors this fact. The lure of getting a 25-1 winner is obvious. There are some truly great horsemen in the background involved here, some experienced chasers will line up. An exciting race. How this race pans out to be in the running,  will define the winner.

WESTMINSTER DARK AGE POWER ABUSE CLINGING TO A LONG OUTDATED POLITICAL SYSTEM

The huge fuss made by Cameron, Clegg and Miliband throwing their dollies out of the pram over Alex Salmond’s Scotland wanting to break free from England’s Westmiinster power abuse. And why ever not.  Westminster shouldn’t be repressing the rights and the needs of the people in Scotland, or in any other part of Britain either. Looks like each county in Britain is needing to break free from dark age Westminster’ power abuse as well. To put the everyday needs of the people first, not last.

.What about the real live flesh and blood living dollies? What is Westminster planning for them? More of this same power abuse to turn little children's daily existence into hell on earth as well?
To bring up little children the right way is very similar to bringing up little foals.
there is a right way, and there is a wrong way, as American horseman Monty Roberts attempts to show

HORROR STORY
Deep Divisions:

Through TV we have all observed over the last weeks the life and times of Ashya King, the little five year old boy who is so ill. How his parents have been treated in their hour of need by government officials ending up locked up in prison for three days.  It is Cameron, Clegg and Miliband who need to be locked up in prison, if only to learn to love and bring up little children, in a kind and decent way.

“Any chance of Kempton restarting Flat racing on turf?
“MY WEEK
“WHAT a pleasure it was to go to Goodwood on Tuesday."
“There are times, and there are going to be more of those times from this part of the year onwards, when it feels as though we are only ever racing on the all-weather. It is now going to be a fair while before I experience a full week of riding only on grass, so the chance to go to a Group 1 track like Goodwood and take part in some decent races on lovely ground in front of a respectably sized crowd was a joy.
“It’s been a busy week and through a mixture of choice and necessity I’m making my first trip of the year to Wolverhampton this evening.
"However, on occasions you have to draw a line and I told my agent Tony Hind I didn’t want him chasing any rides for me at Kempton. In saying that I’m not trying to be nasty about Kempton. I have a great respect for the people who run the track, I go there a lot and was there again last night. But it’s a soulless place, which is one reason I avoided it on Wednesday. To go to a racecourse where, more often than not, there is next to no-one watching and then ride on the all-weather can be pretty miserable.

“It might be a forlorn hope but I really wish Kempton would restart Flat racing on turf now and again. I can’t see any obvious reason why you couldn’t stage a handful of meetings on what is now the hurdles course and was formerly the Flat track. You could even have sprints around the bend, just as they do at Chester, Pontefract and plenty of other places in the world like Australia and America.
“Kempton used to have a beautiful Flat turf course and it would be wonderful if it could have one again.
“It’s true I much prefer turf to the all-weather. I haven’t ridden at Newcastle for a long time so I’m not going to get in the debate about its all-weather plans, but what I would say is people in the north who are keen to see sand come to Newcastle, and maybe at Catterick as well, should think hard. There are times in the south when it feels as though it’s just one all-weather meeting after another. I hate that.

"Credit to Wolverhampton but Kempton’s a concern. "
"It is only fair to give credit where it’s due, so I am going to give some credit to Wolverhampton.

“I have made clear here this year that I do not like all-weather racing. That remains the case, but I am chasing the Jockeys’ championship so last Saturday night I made my first visit of the year to Wolverhampton.

“It was also my first experience of the track’s new Tapeta surface and I was extremely impressed. It does not have the same texture as the old Meydan Tapeta track, which felt more rubbery. When a horse put its foot down at Meydan you heard a slap, as if it was galloping on a beach.

“The Wolverhampton surface is kinder and the kick back minimal . Given the way it rides, and looking at the evidence we have so far, I’d say horses can just as easily win from the front or from behind. It’s a tiring surface but around a tight little track like Wolverhampton there is no harm in gaps starting to appear three furlongs from home.

“I’m afraid I can’t be so positive about the state of the surface right now at Kempton, somewhere I ride much more regularly,

“I have started to have doubts about the track over the last few months and am not convinced it is riding the same as it was a year ago. It has increasingly become a major advantage to be on a handy horse positioned in the first three because coming from behind has got more difficult. The kickback is bad enough and I’ve been on horses who have taken a wrong step, which is highly unusual on an all-weather surface.

“The all-weather should represent a positive and enjoyable experience for a juvenile first time out but I don’t think that is currently the case at Kempton, which is a shame. The track has undoubtedly got worse  - it seems to be losing its life, which happens – and I would not be surprised if work gets carried out on it soon. It comes out badly compared to Lingfield and Wolverhampton at the moment. “

 Margaret Clarke Turfcall Factfile
Richard Hughes thoughts on Kempton Park’s old Flat turf track, this track is priceless because the turf that makes it up is priceless itself. You can never get old seasoned turf like that back if fool enough to trash it. Same applies to the turf track al Newcastle. To destroy such tracks, like throwing gold in the gutter.

Many people have and are trying to find the very best All-Weather surface for racing horses on. But it has proved difficult. The kick back is horrid. Enough to put many horses off racing for good.
