"DE SOUSA, who trails the defending champion by 13 and is a 33-1 chance for the title, dismissed his prospects of maintaining a realistic pursuit of his rivals in the wake of a careless riding suspension.

"AYR BLOWN OFF COURSE There was nowhere to hide from the strong winds and torrential rain, that prompted the abandonment of Ayr's meeting yesterday after three races, also causing frustration for champion jockey PAUL HANAGAN in his bid to retain his title as he missed five rides and challenger SILVESTRE DE SOUSA who missed four. "

HOW YESTERDAY'S JOCKEYS WOULD HAVE FARED UNDER NEW BHA GUIDELINES:
"FROM 16 races run yesterday, four winning jockeys would have been punished under the new whip regime that starts on Monday for hitting their mounts more than five times in the final furlong or after the last obstacle.

"On the Flat, DURAN FENTIMAN  hit  FIRST PHASE nine times in the final furlong when winning the nursery which would mean he would have received an 11-day ban from Monday."

"At Worcester, SAM THOMAS, for six strikes on AKBABEND after the last in the opener, RICHARD JOHNSON for seven aboard LOCO GRANDE and KIELAN WOODS for six strikes on CASTLETOWN BRIDGE from where the flights of the final hurdle stand in the bumper, would all have received suspensions. The jockeys at Exeter would all have been safe under the rules from the final obstacle."
