THE RACING POST THURSDAY OCTOBER 13th 2011
RACING POST WEEK MONDAY OCTOBER 10th - SUNDAY OCTOBER 16th 2011
TODAY'S RACECARDS Wincanton, Uttoxeter, Brighton, Kempton and Punchestown
In relation to the New British Horseracing Regulation Authority setting out
a different perspective in how the whip can or cannot be used. A message to be
implemented both in competition on the racetrack and within the confines of each and every licenced trainers working team. One is left to assume this to be the case, not possible to have one without the other. True bloodhorse literacy has to be recognised, the steps, grades to achieving this status have to be set up properly and to be acknowledged by the general public inclusive of punters and in some cases where there are far too many bloodhorse illiterate
licensing regulators employed within the BHA in their disciplinary, regulation and licensing departments.

LAURA-JAYNE ROBERTS SPECIAL REPORT THE BAN ON BETTING IN PUBS LEADING ACADEMIC SUPPORTS REFORM AS BOOKMAKERS RESIST
ANY CHANGE IN THE LAW ...
Professor Mark Griffiths : “The current law is outdated .....
“BETTING and drinking may be among the most ancient of human pastimes, but the law of the land bars punters from having a bet in the pub. Now one of Britain’s most respected academics on gambling says it is time for a review of the law, which he believes makes no sense in the modern , technological age. Moreover, he’s won the backing of the BHA in what threatens to be the struggle to end all struggles with off-course bookmakers

“NINE JOCKEYS, including Tony McCoy were banned for ten days after failing to pull up when a yellow flag was raised to signal them to stop in a hurdle race at Wetherby yesterday that was declared void. The riders , whose number also included Paddy Brennan and Graham Lee, will be out of action from October 26 to November 4th. The incident occurred in a 2m handicap hurdle, in which the ill- fated ASHBURTON LAD was pulled up with a serious injury on the first circuit and was behind screens between the second last and final flights getting treatment as the field came round again …“THE BHA can buy them some abacuses and they can learn to count again. The jockeys who are complaining about it want a good kick up the arse” As three more riders are banned Ferdy Murphy gives his support to new whip rules.
“RULES WELL THOUGHT OUT."
JON LEES "TRAINER Ferdy Murphy yesterday said jockeys who are complaining about the new whip rules need a good kick up the arse as he claimed the sport badly needed a change in the penalty structuresSince the rules came into force on Monday a succession of jockeys have found difficulty adapting to them. Murphy said “ I think it’s absolutely fantastic and not before time “. The jockeys who are complaining about it want a good kick up the arse and should get on and do their jobs. It's absolutely scandelous the way they are carrying on. The rules have been well thought out. There was plenty of time when this debate was on. If they wanted to make any comments Jamie Stier was there. When it's brought in is not the time to start shouting about it. They are earning plenty of money . They are talking about loosing fees. If they hit a horse eight times or less they they don't loose their fees. Surely it is as simple as that. Have they forgotten how to count?
"It's amazing to hear intelligent jockeys say they find it difficult to count in a race - the BHA can buy them some abacuses and they can learn to count again. I watched Brian Harding and Tony McCoy in a finish yesterday and they were absolutely brilliant.
" I think it is going to improve jockeyship. The lazy ones are going to have to buy a pair of running shoes and get themselves fit and then they won't have to hit horses. "
"Murphy, a jockey himself before he turned to training, added 'I served my time at Phonsie O'Brien's and if you were caught hitting a horse there you were sacked. We needed this badly. Jamie Stier has done a fantastic job."
