TODAY'S RUNNERS
SIR
DES CHAMPS heads our challenge for the Hennessy Gold Cup, a race that has been
unbelievably lucky for us over the years, and we're all hoping he can deliver
in the big race of the day at Leopardstown.
"QUEL
ESPRIT gave us an eighth Hennessy win a year ago and is having his first run
since May. We've been happy with him at home but even at his best it would be
hard to see him being quite good enough to win the race again.
"The
Hennessy is one of four Grade 1's on an excellent card and we're involved in
all of them. We decided to let BOSTON BOB take his chance in the Dr PJ Moriarty
Novice Chase (2.45) although it wasn't my original intention to go for a Grade 1
after only one run over fences. If the ground dries out a bit over night then
that will help. I was disappointed he
struggled to win on his chasing debut at Navan, but I think he has come on a
fair bit since that run. Whether he has improved enough to win a good race like
this , and whether he has enough experience for the job, we'll have to wait and
see. We decided to let him take his chance as we need to get a race into him if
he is to head to Cheltenham next month."

PEARL
THE
TRACEY SHUFFLE fell at Perth
back in September and took a real kicking from the horses in behind. He was
critical for 48 hours, suffering from internal haemorrhaging. But the Royal School
of veterinary Studies of the University
of Edinburgh did a
wonderful job. Formally a most progressive hurdler, it's great to have him back
and he shows all his old enthusiasm at home. He has schooled well and could bid
to give his owners a local winner at Ayr on
Tuesday."

THE
MONEY'S DOWN
JP
McMANUS has warm favourite MY TENT OR YOURS in this afternoon's Betfair Hurdle,
but it is interesting he think it worth running two, and the better value may
lie with JP's second string PRINCETOWN PLAINS, who makes the journey from
Ireland for Eddie Harty. Despite loathing the heavy ground, PRINCETOWN PLAINS,
was a solid sixth in the Ladbroke at Ascot
just before Christmas and races off a 3lb lower mark here. A tough sort with a
good attitude, he's just the type to relish the long Newbury straight and is
overpriced, with plenty of 40-1 and 33s around the village. He is a decent
each- way punt."
