"DWYER hit by a rash decision in Mumbai."
"MARTIN DWYER flees lynch mob after riding beaten favourite ICE AGE who was suffering a heavy bleed from her nose whilst tackling the finish of a race in India.
"There
have been many astounding pronouncements from stewards rooms, home and abroad,
but the one handed down in Mumbai on Sunday beggars belief.
"What
looks like a case of mob rule resulted in MARTIN DWYER being deemed to have 'not allowed his mount
ICE AGE to run on her merit' after the maiden four-year-old filly and favourite
lost out in a three-way photo in a six-furlong contest.
"The
stewards went further, declaring the filly ICE AGE a non-runner so that fuming
punters could get their money back for supporting a filly who had shown herself
still a wilful character on what was her eighth start. A wilful character?
"She
resented a bump out of the stalls, two sharp reminders on the home turn, and
hung in behind a rival before veering both ways in the final furlong under a
hapless Dwyer, whilst his filly was suffering a bleed.
"Hopefully
the dust will have settled by Sunday. When the stewards look again, Dwyer
should be facing just a charge of careless riding on a tricky maiden filly.
That she initially ran into his whip before veering violently the other way to
clatter two of her rivals is mitigating evidence. A careless riding charge? No, no, no. Dwyer dismounted ICE AGE after passing the winning post because he could feel his filly was not right. Nothing to do with careless riding. ICE AGE partner MARTIN DWYER neither deserve any punishment whatever.

INDIAN TAKE-AWAY
"Dwyer drama as Mumbai stewards remove beaten favourite from race.
Bill Barber: "Dwyer flees lynch mob after riding beaten favourite in India
"JOCKEY
Martin Dwyer reportedly had to be rescued by security guards after angry
racegoers at Mahalaxmi racecourse in Mumbai formed what was described as a 'lynch mob' in protest at a ride he had given
a beaten favourite.
"The
Derby winning
jockey finished a close third aboard 6-4 chance ICE AGE in the final race on
Sunday but the ride left a number of onlookers distinctly unhappy.
"A
view of the head-on shows his mount veering markedly to the right in the
closing stages and colliding with a rival, after which Dwyer pulled his mount
away. When he began to ride ICE AGE out in the final strides, the filly hung
right again.
"Nevertheless,
after the race, according to local press reports, racegoers surrounded the
weighing room demanding the race be declared void. Officials from the Royal
Western India Turf Club eventually declared ICE AGE a non-runner and all bets
on her were ordered to be refunded.
"However,
that did not mollify a large sections of the protesters who stayed until late
into the night before dispersing. Police were called to prevent the situation
getting out of control.
Dwyer,
who rode IN THE SPOTLIGHT to win the Indian Derby last year, is due to face
stewards' inquiry on Sunday and will be hoping there is no repeat of Richard
Hughes's experience in India last year,
when he received a 50-day suspension which
was reciprocated by the BHA.
"His
agent Simon Dodds said yesterday "Martin dismounted the horse shortly
after the line because he felt something wasn't right. He did the right thing
because vets found that the horse bled quite heavily from the nose. And I
believe the filly actually wobbled a bit after the race as well.
"The local stewards are going to have an inquiry about it
on Sunday and Martin can't talk to the press about it until then, so you won't
be hearing from him. But I would expect it will be cleared up then.
"There was a small bit of interference from his filly to
one of the others and he might get a suspension for that, but it should be
minimal, if anything ." Sounds like this filly has suffered both in training and when
racing considerable pain through some health defect, default over a considerable length of time. No way can she be blamed for her response to such pain when competing in a race. And no way can Martin be punished in any way at all, either. ICE AGE needs checking out by an Equine vet to find the cause. ICE AGE cannot tell a vet what she is suffering, she can only show through her actions that there is something wrong.
"Local
newspaper Mumbai Mirror quoted RWITC's chief stipendiary steward Pradyumna
Singh as saying: "The club's stewards have further asked us to immediately
initiate an inquiry into this incident and, if possible, to submit them the
report next Sunday."

The winds of bloodhorse illiteracy.
Bill Barber:
"Howard to lead racing's first delegation to China.
ABUSE OF POWER, ABUSE OF HUMAN RIGHTS TO INCLUDE THE HORSES
"BRITISH RACING is to send a bloodhorse illiterate high-level delegation to China this weekend to demonstrate
what it can offer to the country's fledgling racing and equestrian industry.
"The
trip, which is being co-ordinated by the bloodhorse illiterate BHA horseracing government
with support from the UK political bloodhorse
illiterate government, is set to be led by former home secretary and
Conservative Party leader Michael Howard , who
is also chairman of Arena Racing Company.
"Joining
him on the whistle-stop tour, which will take in visits to Beijing ,
Shanghai and the racecourse at Wuhan , will be BHA chief executive Paul
Bittar, Racecourse Association chairman Ian Barlow - who is also on the board
of the China-Britain Business Council - and Jockey Club group chief executive
Simon Bazalgette.
These people are bloodhorse illiterate therefore they do not have a truely balanced team to
do this job properly. Therefore they have no business to set themselves up
so dishonestly in this regard.
"Others
lending their expertise will be Arc managing director Tony Kelly, Ascot chief executive Charles Barnett and Racing
Enterprises Ltd and British Champions Series chairman Chris McFaddon. All bloodhorse illiterate.
"Initial
contact was made a couple of years ago, with Ascot instrumental, but while
there have been low-key visits by individuals from British racing, this is
being seen as a first senior level trade delegation trip.
"The
British racing industry has been slow to develop links with China , where Ireland
and France , as well as Australia and New Zealand , have made inroads. In
April last year Ireland was
chosen to be a partner in the establishment of a major racing and breeding
development in Tianjin ,
with Coolmore an initial joint-venture partner.
"Then
in August France Galop signed an agreement to provide help in the fields of
veterinary and anti-doping science, as well as the organisation of a racing
calendar with "international significance" , while Arqana will be
exclusively responsible for setting up a sales structure for the Tianjin
venture.
"The
BHA was yesterday keen to downplay any expectations of a similar deal being
done during the visit, which is instead being billed as a relationship-building
and educational trip to demonstrate the strengths of British racing, its
background, prestige and quality, as well as emphasising the industry's
expertise in breeding and training
The BHA government and the British political
government are treading and have been treading over the last six decades a very dangerous bloodhorse illiterate path with other
peoples lives to include the horses.
"BHA
head of external affairs Will Lambe
said: "British racing has a tremendous amount to offer on the global
stage, with expertise to match our quality and history. The high-level
delegation to China
has a range of objectives, including attracting further inward investment of a
kind that has, of course, done so much to shape and develop our sport, but this
is an introductory visit and aimed at building long-term relationships. We're
proactive in many new and potential markets, and keen to work together as an
industry." Will Lambe is bloodhorse illiterate he has no idea what he is talking about.
"The
delegation will meet with a range of institutions, private individuals and
private sector companies, although there will be no high-level contact with the
Chinese government.
"The
Chinese Equestrian Association and the China Horse Industry Association are
among the organisations the group will meet in Beijing .
"The
government is offering support through UK Trade and Investment, the government
body set up to help companies in the global economy. There will also be
receptions tied in with the government's GREAT marketing campaign at the
ambassador's residence in Beijing ."
