Burbidge: “I’m not giving up
without a fight."
By Bruce Jackson
“MIKE BURBIDGE, owner of Saturday’s
Badger Ales Trophy winner The Young Master, has vowed to fight all the way for
his ineligible novice chaser to keep the Wincanton race on Saturday November 8.
“It was not until after The Young
Master had romped home in the Listed handicap chase that it emerged the
five-year-old had not been qualified for the £60,000 Class 1 race as, being a
novice, he was required to have run three times over fences.
“Burbidge said yesterday: “I have been in racing for
20 years and am not going to give this up without a fight. I think they
(government) have made a cock-up, and we’ll end up paying for it. “
“The owner said the entry had been made on the
Weatherbys website and claimed there was no reference to the condition relating
to novices contesting the race.
“He added: “I can’t understand the problem as it was
to our disadvantage he had run in only two relevant races. If they, (government)
disqualified him, what are they (government) going to do with his handicap
mark? They (government) can’t put it up if they say he has effectively not run
in the race. Something has to give and I’ll get a solicitor involved if needed.
“The Wincanton Stewards, alerted too late to prevent
The Young Master from running, forwarded a report to the BHA (government) after
racing. The BHA (government) is expected to act on it today and quiz Weatherby’s,
who are responsible for racing administration, over the blunder.
“A Weatherby’s spokesman said there would be no
comment from their end in advance of the BHA (government) inquiries.
“As connections of runner-up Court By Surprise said
they would not be objecting, it will be left to the BHA (government) to set in
motion the process of a formal hearing, which is likely to lead to The Young
Master’s disqualification. “
Is this how Master
slipped through Weatherbys net?
THE title of a flat race The Young Master ran in at
Kempton on Wednesday 19, February 2014 might be the reason why the ineligibility
of the Neil Mulholland-trained winner of Saturday’s Badger Ales Trophy was not
picked up by Weatherbys.
“Having regularly switched between the Flat and
hurdles, The Young Master finished tenth of 11 in the 2m BetBright Chase Day 22.02.14
Handicap on February 19 before embarking
on a seven- month summer break.
“The word ‘Chase’ in the race title could have
confused the Weatherbys computer into thinking The Young Master had competed in
three chases prior to his run at Wincanton on Saturday-his other chase starts
having come in a beginners’ chase at Worcester and an amateur riders’ chase at
Cheltenham. “
WORLDWIDE HORSERACING GOVERNMENTS' BLOODHORSE ILLITERACY MAKES ALL WORLD GOVERNMENTS ' ACTING IN ERROR GUILTY OF PERJURY.
Jumps Turf Meetings which omit to state the number
of hurdles and chase fences to be jumped in each and every race are misleading
the punters and the public in general as well. There is a huge difference between a race with 21 big chase fences to be jumped, to a Flat race. The Young Master won this steeple chase fair and square. It would be a cruel government injustice if The Young Master's Win was disqualified through government's own bloodhorse illiterate errors.
