PAUSE FOR THOUGHT

Steve Dennis

Racing Post Thursday September 10. Page 15.
“Madness to consider making changes to St Leger. “

“DON’T touch it, please, I said don’t touch it. Just leave it alone, it’s alright by itself. Look, I’ve asked you nicely – step away from the St Leger. Hand’s off.
“At this time of year it always seems to be  open season  on the oldest classic, with every one taking a potshot at the venerable race. There’s always a dislocation  between what the race offers and the perception of what it should offer – even now, somewhere in Britain, there’s someone shaking their head at Saturday’s big race and plotting alterations to ‘improve’ it.

“Well if we don’t have another Triple Crown winner it’ll be because no horse was good enough to win it, or no set of connections was bold enough to try it . Camelot came close a few years ago despite hailing from a thoroughly ordinary crop of three-year-olds, proving the possibility still exists.  "Camelot was mugged by bloodhorse illiterate stewards, left to suffer the consequences of severe interference from the winner Enke 2012.
