PREVIEW OF TODAY'S CARDS
A TRIBUTE TO JOHN OAKSEY
1929 - 2012
Graham Green reports
"RACING is mourning the loss of a genuine colossus of the
sport after JOHN OAKSEY died peacefully at his Wiltshire home yesterday morning following a lengthy illness.
"LORD OAKSEY, who was 83, earned legendry status in the hearts of the sport's followers and
professionals alike during a life in which he triumphed as a jockey, journalist,
author, broadcaster and indomitable charity worker.
"Oaksey's greatest legacy is the Injured Jockeys Fund, for
which he provided the inspiration and driving force behind the creation of the
charity in the aftermath of serious injuries suffered by TIM BROOKSHAW and PADDY FARRELL in 1964 ....."
