"JULIE KRONE has flown in from America to defend her crown in this year's Clipper Logistics Leger Legends Classified Stakes, one of the highlights on day one of
Doncaster's four-day ST LEGER  meeting.

 

"KRONE, who became the first female to ride a winner of one of America's Triple Crown races when Colonial Affair won the 1993 Belmont Stakes, rode 3,704 winners during her distinguished career and she won the second running of the Leger Legends race last year when Invincible Hero forged clear to score by three and a half lengths .....

"US star KRONE back to defend Legends crown'

JULIE KRONE, became the first female to ride a winner of a US Triple Crown race when COLONIAL AFFAIR won the 1993 Belmont Stakes and the 49-year-old had to barely raise her whip as she made it win number 3,708 aboard INVINCIBLE HERO in last year's Doncaster contest.

Julie says "It's 40 years since I rode my first winner and it's a huge privilege to be involved."

"The Racing Post's own TOM O'RYAN was the subject of some post-race-mickey-taking from his weighing-room colleagues last year after setting a frantic early pace aboard TALENT SCOUT before fading to last."

 

"O'RYAN, who rides four lots every morning at Fahey's yard, yesterday reported SUNNYSIDE TOM in good form but was also sweet on the chances of his own mount after drawing the Paul Midgely-trained MUFTARRES.

 

O'RYAN said "I'm very hopeful actually. I don't know the horse but I've seen him run enough times. He's a hold up horse and if they go a good gallop it will suit him. I'll have to keep an eye on JULIE CRONE though - she rides our horse (SUNNYSIDE TOM). I was out alongside him this morning and she'll get a good ride from him."
