"Asmussen assistant Blasi fired in wake of Peta probe "
COMMENT
"Racing Post International editor Nicholas Godfrey on a racing nation in crises
Scandal couldn’t have come at worst time for beleaguered industry
“ON BOTH sides of the Atlantic , animal-rights group Peta has a well-defined agenda against horseracing, which it would gladly see abolished, and its allegations against leading US trainer Steve Asmussen are sensationalist, biased and  largely taken out of context via the underhand means of an undercover sting..

“However, they cannot be brushed under the carpet in the current climate of US racing, in which a beleaguered  industry, largely unloved by the wider American public and with a declining audience, is fighting for its survival. Peta’s claims and nine-minute video –edited down from seven hours of footage – have shaken the US racing industry..

“Even if the messenger cannot be trusted, the fallout is already dramatic Authorities in New York and Kentucky are launching their own investigations into the scandal, while Asmussen has now severed  ties with long time assistant Scott Blasi, the man at the centre of unguarded comments on the Peta video.

“To be ruled out in such circumstances can be regarded only as a major dent to his reputation, which is hanging by a thread. .....

PUNISHMENT TO FIT THE CRIME
There is absolutely no excuse for America or Britain's horseracing top table government to sacrifice racehorses lives through fear and shocking injury, or the people who work with racehorses every day. . In the early 1980's over 30 years ago, it was our own Queen Elizabeth's (owner Ascot racecourse) join-up with American horseman Monty Roberts that first kicked off about this horrific state of affairs  in horseracing, so urgently in need to change our ways of caring for racehorses and indeed all animals to include the people who work every day to care for and to love all creatures great and small..
