CAMELOT IN CRUISE CONTROL

Tony O'Hehir

Great photograph showing a close up of CAMELOT and JOSEPH O'BRIEN'S  expression as they go to work after racing at Leopardstown yesterday.

Clearly enjoying their prep gallop, with Triple Crown perspective in mind to win the
St Leger the third and last race in the Triple Crown to be run at Doncaster on Saturday September 15th,  will it be CAMELOT and JOSEPH O'BRIEN'S Triple Crown 2012?
The first since  NIJINSKY and LESTER PIGGOTT in 1970?

GETTING TO KNOW WHO BRED CAMELOT?
Sheikh Abdulla Bin Isa Al-Khalifa .
JOSEPH'S father Aidan O'Brien  "That was a solid bit of work, with a nice, even, building pace. It was the first time CAMELOT had worked with an older horse and they worked at weight for age. He's done well physically since the Irish Derby and had a bit of a tummy on him today. Coming here seemed like a good idea to give him a day away from home."
Who was NIJINSKY?

Who is LESTER PIGGOTT?

Who bred  NIJINSKY?

Who owned NIJINSKY?

Who trained  NIJINSKY?

Who was NIJINSKY'S minder, handler rider every day at home in training?
Nijinsky's sire Northern Dancer, won the Preakness and the Kentucky Derby, but was unable to stay in the Belmont Stakes. Nijinsky inherited speed as well as his father's bold intelligent head. From his dam Flaming Page he inherited his long width and Limbs as well as fiery temper.

THURSDAY'S COLUMN ( 16.08.2012)
"It is essential that IMG doesn't act in a way that alienates the existing core viewership

"Under starter's orders for racing's new TV dream
"So we know Clare Balding  is fronting Channel 4 Racing next year (excellent), we know Simon Holt is likely to remain as numero uno commentator (excellent) and we know John Francome has decided to jack it all in (bad). But other than that we don't know what the coverage is going to look like when production company IMG replaces Highflyer from January 1.

" What is clear is that plenty of familiar faces and hard-working folk behind the cameras are going to lose their jobs, which is never nice,  even if some of them are people for whom certain viewers have little time. It will be fascinating to find out what the new line-up will look like and what innovations we can expect.

" Presuming Balding will do fewer than half the 90 live days C4 will be showing each year, there will still be plenty of work for some of the current presenters,  but IMG may well decide they also want to use the brilliant Nick Luck in a more prominent afternoon role.

"Who will be handed the betting role? I'd consider it a bad move to jettison John McCririck, one of racing's few household names and still an interesting broadcaster, but  IMG may want new blood in there. Matt Chapman?

"And if Francome cannot be persuaded to stay on, which would be a shame, who will provide the analytic nous alongside Jim McGrath (who must surely be one of the first names on the team sheet)?  Graham Cunningham would get a thumbs - up from me.

"All will be revealed in due course, suffice to say it is essential that, whatever IMG has up his sleeve to refresh the coverage and attract a younger audience, it needs to ensure it doesn't act in a way that alienates the existing core viewership."
