Chapter 10
So Nearly A Bold Arrangement
Clive Challenging Abroad
 Pages 117 to 129
"Clive travels his horses all around the world to compete. His adventure started in 1974,
many other trainers have followed suit since. "
‘Clive Brittain has done a great thing. He’s really opened it up.'
said fellow trainer Sir Michael Stoute on Bold Arrangement’s second place in the Kentucky Derby.
On Saturday May 3rd 1986 the 112th, running of  the Kentucky Derby  took place at Churchill Down won by longshot Ferdinand partnered by Bill Shoemaker by two and a quarter lengths from the British horse Bold Arrangement  partner Pat Eddery, fourteenth going past the stands for the first time, came through off a strong pace to finish second .  16 ran. Clive Brittain said “He ran a tremendous race. I couldn’t be any prouder of him.” Jimmy Miller said.` Bold Arrangement should have won easily. If he had, that would have put us on par with the favourites (Snow Chief and Badger Land) he should have won by four lengths. "

Clive Brittain and his head lad (assistant) Jimmy Miller say Bold Arrangement was worth the 30-hour trip from England and the estimated $60,000 it will cost for a chance at a Run for the Roses.

Talk of the Tracks

“Hughes sets title race alight with four-timer. “

“Champion jockey Richard Hughes (Flat Turf) pictured striking with Sir Tyto, his fourth and final win yesterday afternoon the final leg of a four-timer
2.20: Win: L’Etaco (bc) (GB) 2 9-5 partner Richard Hughes Team (Richard) Hannon 5-4f. 5f+ for two year olds. Five ran.
2.50: Win Crafty Choice (bc) (GB) 2 9-5  partner Richard Hughes Team (Richard) Hannon Evensf. 4 ran.
3.20: Win: Unidxter (br g) (IRE) 4 9-1 partner Richard Hughes Team (Sheena) West 6-1.1m4f  8 ran.
4.50:  Win: Sir Tyto (bg) (IRE) 6 9-2 partner Richard Hughes Team (Peter) Makin 2-1f. 1m2f  8 ran.
The photograph on the front of today’s Racing Post stated to be Richard Hughes winning the 4.50 aboard Sir Tyto looks like a chestnut horse to me. His legs look bay his head looks chestnut.  Sir Tyto is stated to be a bay gelding. A beautiful horse, his expression shows happy concentration, in tune with Richard. Richard is very accurate in the saddle and this horse shows he is paying attention to Richard and what he is being asked to do, and that he is happy to oblige.
