GREAT RACING COUPS  (Part-Two of Five)
Nick Townsend recalls a meticulously planned and perfectly executed gamble that netted Barney Curley a fortune. "It was quite simple one man's brains against the bookmakers'.
I'd outwitted the system and taken advantage of unique circumstances'

Julian Muscat "Lets all celebrate Coolmore's change of direction. First they alluded to it, then they implemented it, now they have shown they really mean it. The sea change has been remarkable and racing is much the better for it.

"There has been a significant shift of emphasis in the way Coolmore campaign their best racehorses. Gone are the days when horses ran only on the commercial  imperative. Here are the days when CAMELOT stays in training and when ST NICHOLAS ABBEY, who has added meaningful ballast to races  that would otherwise have been non events, is expected  to soldier on as a six-year-old. ........  ....

AN interesting read. With reference to these two proven mighty racehorses, three year old colt CAMELOT and the older entire horse  ST NICHOLAS ABBEY a five year old. The most vital part of this focus is the amount of highly skilled work that has constantly and patiently
been going on day by day behind the scenes in preparing both these racehorses to compete, and to compete and to succeed at the highest level world wide.

The key ingredient that has allowed us to enjoy their performancies in races is the standard of  Bloodhorse Literacy achieved by TEAM O'BRIEN. All taken for granted by the bloodhorse illiterate public, and the bloodhorse illiterate British horseracing government.  who fail to understand the true focus of preparing a yearling, a two year old etc to compete.

How do you teach a yearling to take the bridle?

Who taught CAMELOT to take the bridle as a yearling?

Who taught ST NICHOLAS ABBEY to take the bridle as a yearling?

At present all the yearling sales are on around the world. As published by the Racing Post in helpful detail. All owners and trainers  interested in having two year old runners for next season  attend these sales.  All  yearlings  purchased this autumn have a considerable learning program in front of them over the next year if they are ever to see a racecourse. A yearlings welfare very much depends on the standard of skill achieved by the handler rider put on to bring  each yearling through this first stepping stone tutorial.
