J Margaret Clarke Turfcall Comment
JANUARY 2011
What sort of regulation is looking at such as this now December 21 2012? This should have been dealt with by bloodhorse literate regulators in January 2011 at once.
"EDDIE AHERN yesterday strenuously denied the race-fixing accusations made against him and vowed to “vigorously defend ”  himself against the BHA charges.
“Sporting first-time blinkers, JUDGETHEMOMENT was ridden from the front by Ahern in a 2m all-weather handicap at Lingfield before the former Royal Ascot winner  weakened through the field to finish last. The Racing Post comment read: “Led and soon spreadeagled field, came back from halfway, headed and weakened rapidly over 4f out.”

POINT 1
Not all horses are easy to ride, the best riders’ are always booked if possible to ride horses who are not straight forward.  So as to give the horse the best possible help from the saddle.

POINT 2
JUDGETHEMOMENT ran in blinkers for the first time, so clearly there was a reason for this, possibly that he was found to lack concentration and confidence to the job in hand, when finding himself within the racecourse environment, where there is indeed,  a lot going on.  Enough to distract both horses and people.

POINT 3
JUDGETHEMOMENT took up the running early on “Led and soon spreadeagled field, came back from halfway, headed and weakened rapidly over 4f out.”

Sounds like Ahern took it up from the outset, because on jumping from the starting stalls he found JUDGETHEMOMENT took off sharpish with him, due to  the effect of the first time  blinkers he had on him, Ahern clearly thought it best not to interfere or to fight against him, but let him run and settle in his own time. Nothing wrong in that. Possibly the very best way to handle such a crisis situation. Tom Queally used this method with FRANKEL, it worked well didn't it, as we all now know. Perhaps it will work well in time the same with JUDGETHEMOMENT .  Who clearly has considerable ability, if handled and ridden to suit  JUDGETHEMOMENT to bring back his confidence, so he can shine to show his true form and not feel frightened and get unsettled any more.

Many punters will follow Eddie Ahern, due to the ability he has in the saddle. But Eddie cannot be warned-off by patterns that happen to emerge in the Punters Zone. Those issues are not Eddie's fault. And nothing to do with how Eddie rides a horse in a race. Eddie was partnering a horse that demanded all Eddie's attention, Eddie had to go along with the needs of JUDGETHEMOMENT throughout the whole race. .

“In a statement released through his solicitor Christopher Stewart-Moore, Ahern stressed his denial of failing to ride any of the horses involved in the investigation on their merits. It read: “Mr Ahern strenuously denies the allegations against him, particularly that he would ride a horse in such a way that it would not run on its merits. He will vigorously defend himself against the charges.”

“Ahern, 34, was aboard five of the six horses in the BHA investigation which involved bets placed through betting exchanges , spread betting accounts and with fixed-odds bookmakers. Assistant trainer James Clutterbuck, Martin Raymond, Michael Turi and Paul Hill were only charged in relation to the sixth horse under investigation, STONEACRE GARETH.

“Ahern a former champion apprentice in Ireland, was last month forced to cancel plans to ride in India during the winter after the BHA alerted the Bangalore Turf Club that he was suspended of a serious rule breach.”

EQUUS ZONE
Bloodhorse literate focus facts
No jockey worldwide can take part in any horserace without a horse. The Rules of Racing world wide therefore need to include the needs of the horses just as much as the people. The Rules of British horseracing are being transcribed by people who are not horsemen, by people who are not familiar with all that goes on within a true Equus Zone that makes the Equus Zone so special..

All horses are different, the same as people are all different. Horses are very dependant upon who is preparing them at home in training.  The person who rides them out and handles them every day at home, in all their prep work for competition on the racetracks.
The best riders are always aboard the tricky horses.

A jockey getting a leg-up in a race, on a horse he has never ridden before, that jockey can tell immediately in the saddle how that horse responds to his requests or not, as the case maybe. The defining moment of what has been going on at home exposed  - right or wrong.
