" Christmas misery for Jacob after ten-day suspension

 by Andrew King

"Nicholls defends Jacob over 'harsh' suspension

"DARYL JACOB will miss the lucrative Christmas and New Year holiday period, including the mount on KAUTO STONE in the William Hill King George VI Chase, after being handed a ten-day ban by the Wincanton stewards yesterday.

"The rider, who hit headlines worldwide with the closest finish in Grand National history when winning by a nose on NEPTUNE COLLONGES in April was punished, for failing to ride out ULIS DE VASSY, runner-up in the 2m handicap hurdle. He will be out of action  from December 20th until January 1st, an absence that could prove very costly.

"JACOB was due  to ride a number of horses for champion trainer Paul Nicholls including KAUTO STONE, a 12-1 shot with the sponsors to win a race his illustrious half brother KAUTO STAR won five times.

"The jockey was involved in a three-way driving finish aboard the Nick Williams-trained four-year-old when he appeared to stop riding momentarily  at a path that crossed the course approximately 40 yards from the winning post.
"His mount, an 8-1 chance, went down by a neck to 9-2 shot QUADICK LAKE with TOP WOOD, the 11-4 favourite, a length back in third place and the stewards considered JACOB'S moment of easing down may have made the difference between defeat and victory.
"Jacob, visibly upset by the ban, declared he did not think he could have won as QUADICK LAKE was in front of him at the time, before deciding he did not wish to comment further.

"BHA stipendiary steward William Nunneley, officiating at Wincanton, said "The stewards inquired into why DARYL JACOB appeared to stop riding a few strides before the winning post before continuing to ride the horse again. He was found guilty of failing to ride out a horse who could have won andwas suspended for ten days, beginning in two weeks time."

"Nicholls leapt to the defence of JACOB, saying: " He's not done it intentionally and I can see how it's happened as there's a footpath across the course and a marker on the rail at that very point. It must be easy to mistake that for the winning post in a driving finish.

"It's human error and I think ten days is rather harsh as, looking at it again, I don't think he would have won. It's hardly satisfactory that the footpath and the marker are so close and maybe the course has to take some responsibility for this happening."

"Yesterday's incident was not the first time there has been controversy involving the footpath as five years ago jockey's DOUGHIE COSTELLO and PAUL O'NEILL stopped riding momentarily  when fighting out the finish of the Elite Hurdle on KING'S QUAY and CHIVALRY."

Bloodhorse Illiterate Wincanton Racecourse Management

Bloodhorse Illiterate Nunneley  BHA

THAT PATH

has no business to be there in the first place.
DARYL JACOBS no way can such a punishment as this be allowed to stand DARYL deserves a public appology from Bloodhorse Illiterate Wincanton Racecourse and  the bloodhorse illiterate BHA  Nunneley

YET AGAIN we see the bloodhorse illiterate British horseracing stewards with BHA stipendiary steward William Nunneley, who should by now know better, punishing JACOB unjustly. Clearly Nunneley has made a dreadful bloodhorse illiterate mistake. These people should not be making mistakes like this. JACOB is a talented young rider just starting out in his career. If JACOB had made a false move on KAUTO STONE, when he hesitated seeing  that footpath, JACOB could have had a very dangerous fall.

Paul Nicholls racing arrangements without Jocob over the Christmas and New Year holiday are seriously inhibited. Due to the BHA's  false allegations. Such as this should never be going on.
