Post's Whitaker is Sports Photographer of the Year



The Racing Post's Edward Whitaker was on Monday named Sports Photographer of the Year at the British Sports Journalism Awards in London.

Presented with his trophy by Michael Parkinson, Whitaker, 46, dedicated his award to his late father, James. It was Whitaker's second triumph in the prestigious category afrer he won it in 2008.

Owner issues Haydock ground warning for Run

Buick set for two-month spell in Japan next year


WILLIAM BUICK, who rides in Japan for the first time on Saturday, will be back in the country in the new year for a two-month spell after securing a foreign jockeys' licence from the Japan Racing Association.


He is due to take over from   Ryan Moore, whose current short-term licence, riding principally for trainer Noriyuki Hori and owner Kazuko Yoshida at the JRA's Miho training centre, ends on December 24.


Buick is among eight overseas riders, including Moore, Johnny Murtagh, Andrasch Starke, Christophe Soumillon and Mirco Demuro from Europe, taking on seven locals in a four-race challenge in Tokyo on Saturday and Sunday.

The event was started in 1987 and carries the tag of the World Super Jockeys Series.
