AP McCOY'S DICE WITH DEATH
WETHERBY FRIDAY NOVEMBER 2nd 2012

1.00 Wetherby Racecourse & Conference Centre "National Hunt" Novices Hurdle (Class 4) Eleven Hurdles 2m4f for 4yo+

MR WATSON (IRE) 5 10-12 partner AP McCOY handler presenter? trainer Jonjo O'Neill for Mrs J Smith 13 ran.
TONY McCOY to challenge for this Novice Hurdle aboard MR WATSON

MR WATSON dropped AP McCOY at the start, then spooked and kicked AP full in the face, MR WATSON did not run due to this accident.

AP McCOY had a close shave with death this day whilst holding MR WATSON at the starting gate at Wetherby last Friday, the horse that had dropped him first, then spooked kicking out at AP catching AP smack in the face.

NICKY HENDERSON said " I gather that if AP had been standing any closer to the horse on Friday he would not be here on the planet now, "

McCOY said: "I was holding the horse after he dropped me when he spooked, lashed out and caught me full in the face. I've broken a couple of teeth, but luckily my dentist put in a couple of temporaries last night and the doctor at Wetherbys sorted me out with a plastic surgeon at York hospital who stitched me up inside and outside my lip and on my nose."

IT ONLY TAKES ONE ACCURATE KICK

JMC TURFCALL COMMENT
Lets take a much closer look at MR WATSON

MR WATSON a 5 year old gelding (2012) Novice Hurdler, this was his first run over hurdles this jumps season. Ran last season falling the first time out- following up with a Win and a Third.

Last Friday in the 1.00 at Wetherby the 5 year old gelding MR WATSON finding himself for the 4th time in a racecourse environment, was showing signs of feeling well out of his comfort zone. On managing to reach the starting gate with AP MC COY on board, he was by this time feeling even more uneasy, he was not responding to AP, in fact by this time MR WATSON was finding AP surplus to his immediate safety requirements, so MR WATSON quickly fired AP off, AP managed to keep hold of MR WATSON, it was then that MR WATSON finding AP again inhibiting his safety spooked and kicked out to remove AP for the second time, catching AP full in his face,  lashing out kicking to remove any incumberance hindering what he sees to be threatening his safety.

Away from home  MR WATSON shows that he feels very insecure. His confidence is leaving him at an every increasing rate .... so much to see .... so much to take in all at once,
that his spellbound mode kicks in, he finds he has only his own senses to rely on ... to save himself from harm, to struggle for his own rights.

MR WATSON was showing by his actions in practice that in this racecourse environment he had no trust in AP or in anyone else, he had only himself to rely on, in what he percieved to be a strange place, a dangerous place ....

ASCOT SATURDAY NOVEMBER 3rd 2012 (JUMPS) (TURF)

2.00 Ascot 122- MY TENT OR YOURS (IRE) 5 10-12 partner AP MCCOY Nicky Henderson for JP McManus 2m 4yo+

NICKY HENDERSON mindful that he had booked AP to ride MY TENT OR YOURS at Ascot the next day, (Saturday November 3rd) and upon hearing that AP was hurt, was thinking he would be needing to find another rider for MY TENT OR YOURS, he said "MY TENT OR YOURS has a huge amount of talent, but he's got to learn how to use it. We all love our horses but they are accidents waiting to happen. I gather that if AP had been standing any closer to the horse on Friday he would not be here on the planet now."

MY TENT OR YOURS (IRE) 5 10-12 partner A P McCOY trainer Nicky Henderson for John P McManus partnership intact AP not liking to let any one down took the ride as planned and won by nearly two lengths at 4/7f  from TAQUIN DU SEUIL 11-4

NICKY HENDERSON The clue here comes from the wording issued by Nicky Henderson trainer of MY TENT OR YOURS "This horse has a huge amount of talent, but he's got to learn how to use it. We all love our horses but they are accidents waiting to happen. I gather that if APhad been standing any closer to the horse on Friday he would not be here on the planet now.

"But they are accidents waiting to happen ...  Henderson's concerns are key, vital to
MY TENT OR YOURS' whole career, to his future success or failure. All depends upon Team Henderson prepping these horses at home every day.

Horses need minding, more than anything else, they need highly skilled handler riders to bring them along each and every day from their yearling, two year old, three year old days, if they are ever to reach a racecourse. We have been honoured over the last 3 years to observe FRANKEL'S career on the Flat within Team Cecil. We have observed the care and the true understanding Sir Henry Cecil has  shown us along FRANKEL'S journey to stardom. That Frankel never raced anywhere without his brother BULLET TRAIN beside him, giving FRANKEL a lead, holding FRANKEL'S attention to show him that he was never alone because BULLET TRAIN was there for him always. MR WATSON needs a BULLET TRAIN his own BULLET TRAIN himself.

The British Horseracing Government over the last 60 years have been The Jockey Club (JC), The British Horseracing Board (BHB) and at present the British Horseracing Authority Government (BHA) powerful people at the top of these organisations have in the main been bloodhorse illiterate. And as the decades have come and gone, with the motor engines taking over from where the horses left off, true horsemanship has slowly become a skill of the past, with just one exception Horseracing.
